The Salvation Mountains have been high on my Palm Springs to-do list for a couple of years but never once did an opportunity present itself until this trip. The Tuesday before I flew home, we made the trek past the Salton Sea (which is fascinating in itself) down to Slab City. Craig made mention of The Hills Have Eyes; I did not get the reference as I do not subscribe to thrillers in any capacity, but the area is quite peculiar and the creepiness was not lost on me. The mountain was a spectacular art installation made from hay bales, plaster, and paint. Photographs cannot do it justice, the artistry and construction can only be fully appreciated first hand.
