One weekend, one tent, four 'ritualistic' burnings, 26 bands, three bacon grease burns on my leg, one lost sippy cup, a bunch of fireworks, and the best group of people you could ever dream of hanging out with. That's just scraping the superficial surface of the magic that is Golden West Music Fest. All the nights have sort of merged in the afterglow of the festival.
Saturday night though, was by far the stand out for me with the giant bonfire, the towering marching hat ablaze post-show Wet Secrets set, and visiting The Oracle, an installation piece by Tandie McLeod where you climb a ladder up into a cocoon of branches to inquire what your future may hold.
Smokey & The Feeelings performed a "magic" inspired set with Smokey himself dressed like the wizard in his illustrations and included covers such as 'Strange Magic' - too good. Faith Healer, Ben Disaster, The Lad Mags, Mitchmatic, and Physical Copies... every performer was blowing minds and setting new standards of amazing. August long weekend will be a gaping void next year without this festival.
